WhatsApp for car rental and leasing companies

The document checklist before pickup, the return reminder, the Salik and fine pass-through and the deposit release — to a renter who booked on a comparison site and will be at the counter in an hour. Anything about the rental itself is utility; the weekend upgrade offer is marketing.

What you send, and what it counts as

The category decides everything else: the price, whether it reaches somebody who opted out, and the criteria it is reviewed against.

MessageCategoryWhat that means
Bring your Emirates ID or passport, licence and a card for the depositUtilityAbout the booking. The renter who turns up without an IDP on a tourist licence is the most common failed pickup, and this message is what prevents it.
Your rental ends tomorrow at 10:00 — extend, or confirm the returnUtilityThe extend button is a paid extension, not a promotion — it is about the contract in force. Every late return you avoid is a car that is where the next booking expects it.
Salik / Darb tolls and a fine of {{amount}} recorded during your rentalUtilityThe pass-through that arrives three weeks later is the dispute every rental company knows. Sent as a template with the date, plate and amount, it lands as fact rather than as an argument.
Upgrade to an SUV this weekend, monthly lease offer, loyalty rateMarketingOpted-in renters only. A leasing pitch to somebody who rented once for a wedding weekend is the message that gets a business number reported.

The fine arrives after the window has closed

A traffic fine or a Salik charge reaches the rental company two to four weeks after the car came back, and the renter has not messaged since the return. The 24-hour window is shut, so the notice cannot be free text — it has to be a utility template, approved before the season, with the date, location, plate and amount as variables and the evidence link attached. Companies that discover this in July send the notice by email, get no reply, and charge the card; the renter's first contact is a chargeback. Zanii holds the template ready, sends it against the booking, and keeps the delivery receipt, so the sequence — notified, read, charged — is on record when the bank asks.

A return reminder that gets approved

Hi {{1}}, your {{2}} (plate {{3}}) is due back at {{4}} on {{5}}. Fuel level as received, please. Tap Extend to keep it longer or Confirm if you're on schedule.

The double braces are variables WhatsApp fills per recipient. Meta rejects a template whose numbering has gaps, and Zanii catches that before you submit it.

Common questions

Can the renter send us the damage photos on WhatsApp?
Yes, and it is the best place for them: a photo sent in reply to the pickup checklist is timestamped, attached to the booking's conversation and kept with the delivery receipts, which is stronger evidence than a photo on the agent's own phone. The condition report at return works the same way in the other direction.
We have branches at both Dubai airports and in Sharjah. Separate numbers?
One licence, one number, however many branches — the branch goes into the template as the pickup location. Separate numbers only make sense where the branches are separately licensed entities, because verification is per licence. A renter who saved the number at Terminal 1 and returns at Terminal 3 should reach the same conversation.
Does CRA apply to these messages?
Commercial messaging to Qatari numbers falls under the Communications Regulatory Authority, and Ooredoo and Vodafone Qatar both apply sender registration on their side. Meta's business verification asks for the MOCI commercial registration; a QFC-licensed entity submits its QFC licence instead. Opt-out must be honoured within the same channel it was requested in.
