WhatsApp for padel clubs and sports venues

Court confirmations, waitlist releases and the no-show fee, on the app every player in the group chat already has open. The split that decides what you can send: a booking confirmation is utility and reaches every player; "courts are half price at 2pm" is marketing and reaches only the ones who agreed to it.

What you send, and what it counts as

The category decides everything else: the price, whether it reaches somebody who opted out, and the criteria it is reviewed against.

MessageCategoryWhat that means
Court booked, court changed, booking cancelledUtilityAbout a booking the player made. Reaches them whatever their marketing preference — and the reply reopens a window you can use to sort out the fourth player.
A court opened up on the waitlist — reply YES within 10 minutesUtilityThe player asked to be told. The reply button is a quick-reply, and the first YES wins the slot in Zanii's inbox rather than in a WhatsApp group where three people claim it.
Ladder and tournament fixtures, results, next roundUtilityThe player registered for the competition, so the fixture is about something they did. A promotional line at the bottom turns the whole template into marketing — keep the sponsor off it.
Off-peak court offers, a new academy intake, a padel nightMarketingPriced higher and excluded for anybody who opted out. Segment it by what they play — a padel night to your tennis-only members reads as spam and gets reported.

The no-show fee has to be in the confirmation, not in the chase

A club that charges for late cancellations usually tells the player when they fail to show — by which point the player last messaged three days ago, the 24-hour window is shut, and the message will not deliver as free text. It has to go as an approved template, and a template whose only content is "you owe us 150 dirhams" is reviewed hard. What gets approved is the fee stated in the booking confirmation itself, with the cancellation deadline as a variable, and a reply button to cancel in time. Zanii shows the window on every conversation and swaps the composer for the template picker when it has closed, so nobody on the desk types a chase that silently never arrives.

A court confirmation that gets approved

Hi {{1}}, court {{2}} is booked for {{3}} at {{4}}. Free cancellation until {{5}}; after that the no-show fee applies. Tap below if plans change.

Category: Utility

The double braces are variables WhatsApp fills per recipient. Meta rejects a template whose numbering has gaps, and Zanii catches that before you submit it.

Common questions

Can players book a court by replying on WhatsApp?
Yes, in two ways. A reply inside the 24-hour window can be answered by your desk or by the assistant with the free slots for that evening, taken from the calendar you connect. Outside the window, the club sends the waitlist template with a reply button, and the first tap takes the court. Either way the booking lands in the same inbox, so the desk is not reconciling a WhatsApp group against the booking system by hand.
Do I need a separate number for the academy and the club?
Not for WhatsApp's sake — one verified number can carry both, and the inbox can route academy conversations to the coaches and court bookings to the desk. Use a second number only if the two are separate licensed entities, because Meta verifies the number against one business licence. Members find one number easier to save than two.
Does TRA apply to these messages?
Oman's Telecommunications Regulatory Authority governs commercial messaging, and the Personal Data Protection Law (Royal Decree 6/2022) requires consent for marketing and a record of it. Meta's verification asks for the MOCIIP commercial registration; a free-zone entity (Sohar, Salalah, Duqm) submits its free-zone licence. Omantel, Ooredoo Oman and Vodafone Oman numbers all verify. Omani rial has three decimal places, so prices here are shown to the baisa.
